Profiles of the team
Mr Pollock
Mr Pollock is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore (RNOH). He qualified at University College London, School of Medicine in 1993 before embarking on a career in surgery.
His orthopaedic training took place in various London teaching hospitals including the RNOH. He undertook fellowships in Sydney, Australia and Denver, USA where he gained experience in hip and knee replacement, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, trauma and the management of bone tumours.
Mr Pollock has published several papers on joint reconstruction and regularly presents research at national and international meetings.
He is an instructor on many of the postgraduate courses at the RNOH.
Mr Pollock is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and a member of the British Orthopaedic Association. He is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and on the Specialist Register for orthopaedic surgery.
Dr Cooper
Dr Cooper is a consultant anaesthetist based at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and works closely with Mr Pollock. He graduated from Edinburgh University medical school and trained as an anaesthetist at The University College London and Royal Free School of Anaesthesia. Subsequently, he has specialised in providing anaesthetic services and clinical support for adult and paediatric orthopaedic surgical procedures. This includes arthroscopic work, joint replacement surgery and complex limb salvage and reconstruction.
He is involved with several research projects relating to orthopaedics and has a particular interest in minimising blood loss during surgery. Where possible we try to avoid blood transfusion and use other methods such as autologous re-infusion.
Dr Cooper is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He is registered with the GMC and on the specialist register for anaesthesia.
Mrs Elise Spicer
Elise is the practice manager. She has worked for a number of orthopaedic consultants and has a great deal of experience in private practice. She is responsible for the day to day running of Knee & Hip Surgery - London.
Paul Whitman
Paul is a fully qualified surgical practitioner who works closely with Mr Pollock and the rest of the team. He trained as a theatre nurse at University College Hospital and developed his expertise in orthopaedic surgery at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He has a diploma in operating department and anaesthetic nursing practice and qualified as a surgical care practitioner at the University of Greenwich in 2004. He has extensive experience in assisting with knee and hip operations and is a valuable member of the team.
